Explanation of Unexpected Outage This Morning
March 29th, 2007 — 2:26 pm —We wanted to follow-up with folks regarding the unexpected outage this morning. Some of you may have noticed intermittent ‘Server 500’ errors when accessing a site that is served up by slate. One of our recent commits included a change to how we were monitoring and rotating logs. It looks like this commit combined with a Mongrel cluster (on Windows?) was a Bad Idea™. We actually updated the code-base this morning but wanted to wait until we were sure the problem was cleared up before putting up an “all clear” post. If you notice any issues please don’t hesitate to let us know.
We apologize for the inconvenience and outage.
